# People and companies

Keep track of the people you talk to and the companies they work for, link them to speakers and sessions, and archive the ones you no longer need.

**People** are your contacts and the speakers TalkBar has met in your sessions. **Companies** are the organizations they belong to, with your relationship to each one. TalkBar uses both to label speakers, to answer chats and to show context during sessions.

Open **Knowledge → People** or **Knowledge → Companies**.

## People

The People tab lists everyone TalkBar knows in this workspace. Each card shows the person's name, role, company, email and when you last talked.

### Where people come from

- **You add them.** Click **Add person**.
- **You name a speaker.** When you name a speaker in a session, that person is linked to the session and appears here. See [Speakers](/voice/speakers).
- **Knowledge scans suggest them.** A scan can suggest a new person or new details for someone you have. You approve them in [Review](/knowledge/review-and-scans).

### Confirmed and unconfirmed

**Confirmed** people are ones you know. **Unconfirmed** people were found automatically and may still need a name. Confirm a person so speaker assignment recognizes them first in future sessions.

To confirm someone, open their menu and choose **Mark confirmed**, or tick **Confirmed person** when you edit them. **Mark unconfirmed** reverses it.

### Person details

Click a person to open their details:

| Section | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Details** | Email, phone, relationship tag and notes. |
| **Company** | Their current company and role, and earlier ones. Old sessions keep the role and company from the time of the call. |
| **Projects and series** | Projects and session series the person was added to. |
| **Sessions** | Every session they took part in, and the speaker name they spoke as. |
| **Related** | Linked knowledge items, such as memory cards. |
| **Timeline** | Changes to this person over time. |

To change a person, click **Edit**:

| Field | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| Photo | **Upload photo**, **Change photo** or **Remove photo**. |
| **Name** | The person's name. |
| **Role** | Their job title, for example "VP Operations". |
| **Company** | Pick a company, or **Add new company**. |
| **Email**, **Phone** | Contact details. |
| **Relationship tag** | Your own tag, for example "Economic buyer". |
| **Notes** | What you should remember about this person. |
| **Confirmed person** | Uncheck to mark the person as unconfirmed. |

### Find and organize people

- Tabs: **All**, **Confirmed**, **Unconfirmed**.
- Filter by **Company** or by **Relationship** tag. **Search people…** finds people by name.
- **Show archived** includes archived people.
- **Cards view** shows people as cards. **Sessions view** groups them by the sessions they were in.
- **Pin** keeps a person at the top. **Pinned on top** keeps pinned people first.
- **Select people** lets you **Confirm**, **Pin**, **Move to company**, **Add to** a project or series, or **Archive** several people at once.

## Companies

The Companies tab lists organizations. Each card shows the company's name, logo, relationship and how many contacts it has.

### Relationship types

Every company has one relationship to you:

**Client**, **Vendor**, **Partner**, **Prospect**, **Internal**, **Investor**, **Advisor** or **Other**.

The Companies tab shows **All** plus up to three relationship tabs. **Client**, **Vendor** and **Partner** are shown by default. Use **Filter types** to choose other ones, and **Set as default** to keep your choice.

### Add and edit a company

Click **Add company** and enter a **Name**, **Website**, **Relationship** and **Notes**.

Click a company to open its details:

| Section | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Details** | Website, relationship and notes. **Edit** changes them and lets you upload a logo. |
| **People** | Everyone linked to the company. **Add person** lets you pick someone you have (**Add an existing person…**) or **Name a new person**. |
| **Projects and series** | Projects and session series the company was added to. |
| **Related** | Linked knowledge items. |
| **Timeline** | Changes to this company over time. |

You can also link a project to a company in the project's settings. See [Projects](/knowledge/projects).

### Find and organize companies

- **Search companies…** finds companies by name.
- **Cards view** and **Sessions view** work like on the People tab.
- **Show archived** includes archived companies.
- **Select companies** lets you **Pin**, **Change relationship**, **Add to** a project or series, or **Archive** several at once.

## Link people and companies to your work

- **Sessions**: people are linked to a session through its speakers and participants. Rename participants on the session page.
- **Projects and series**: open a person's or company's menu and choose **Add to** → **Project** or **Session series**. A project's **People** and **Companies** tabs list them.
- **Memory cards**: a card's **About** section can link to people and companies. On the Memory cards tab, filter by **Person** or **Company** to see the cards about them.
- **Chats**: type **@** in a chat to mention a person or company, or attach them with **Add sources**.

## Archive

People and companies are archived, not deleted.

- Archiving a person (**Archive** in their menu) hides them from search and live context. Memory cards that mention them keep their links.
- Archiving a company hides it from search and live context. People keep their employer and history.

You can restore either one at any time. Turn on **Show archived**, then choose **Restore** from the card's menu.
